**This booking is exclusively for a workshop at the Emerald Showgrounds inside the Pavilion, for private consults or bookings at a different location please refer to the standard Emerald Dog Training Consultation listing**
A 90min Workshop with Skye, a Qualified Dog Trainer, Behavioural Assessor and Ex Veterinary Nurse with 15 years in industry experience and the owner of the MS Pet Services Pet Supply store in Blackwater. Workshops are an excellent opportunity to learn from observing and participating in training exercises with a range of dogs, breeds and skill levels. Although not as personalised as a private session, these sessions are often based largely around the dogs attending and questions asked during the training workshop, so people get the opportunity to learn about the subject on a range of levels for a very cost effective fee and in a more flexible way than committing to group classes or a private session. Workshops could cover a range of topics depending on the day like:
- basic and advanced obedience training
- Shaping complex tricks and tasks
- loose-lead walking
- behaviour modification
- engagement training
- reactivity
- anxiety
- scent detection training
- recall
- puppy development
- Adolescent dog development
- Adult dog development
- barking
- and more!
The Workshop topic for the session will be posted and described for the session when advertised, please contact MS Pet Services if you are unsure on the workshop topic
Workshops are currently held at the Emerald Showgrounds inside the main pavilion and you will need to bring your own comfortable chair, the workshops will go ahead no matter the weather, we are undercover and safe from the weather.
We will be advertising for working spots($10 extra) and auditor positions
Auditor positions are a great opportunity to learn and observe without worrying about handling a dog, these positions are extremely valuable as you get to learn through observing a range of dogs and their behaviour without distraction, Auditors have every opportunity to ask questions and interact with the group throughout the session and for some workshops they will also get the chance to practice on some dogs.
Auditors are great for people who may not have a dog that is suitable to come to the workshop, weren't selected for a working dog space, may not have a dog yet or may not have a dog at the stage the workshop is based around but still wanting to learn and be prepared for a future dog or their current dog to reach that stage, foster carers, pet professionals, people who would rather not stand up in front of others and train their dog, people who would like distraction free learning, people who would rather take notes and ask questions, people wanting to learn more about behaviour and training in general.
Working spots will be bringing your dogs, we ask that your dog is toilet trained and able to be safely restrained in either a crate or happy to sit with you to the side during the workshop while they are not working.
You will be prompted to indicate if you would like a working spot when filling in your details for the workshop, please give as much information as you can. Most workshops will only have 6 working places and the dogs for these spots will be selected based off suitability and having a range of behaviours, breeds or skill levels on the day. Please feel free to apply no matter what level your dog is at, these places don't go to the most well behaved or the most interesting cases, they're picked based off what I am looking to offer on the day and giving observers the widest range of examples of training across the subject being covered.
Working spots for loose lead walking and heeling will ask for a $10 extra fee
My only requirement is that your dog is able to be at the show grounds for 90 mins without becoming overly stressed and that your dog doesn't display any aggression towards other dogs or people.
All dogs must be on leash, under control and are not permitted to interact or make contact during the workshop unless instructed to. We all want our dogs to find this a positive experience and not all dogs enjoy each others company, even when they seem like they may. Dogs should arrive around 15 mins before to settle in and if crate trained, bringing a crate is suggested.
If you have any questions please feel free to reach out, we are always happy to answer any and all questions!
